M&T Bank Communication
M&T Bank is a financial institution that can be found in 14 different states. Overall, this company seems to do a good job communicating on its website and social media platforms. For example, there is a post on M&T's Facebook page from three days ago. It informs how bank members and volunteers rappelled down the New England Regional Headquarters to raise funds for a boys and girls club. On October 30th there were two posts, one of which discussed the importance of cyber security. The bank is active on social media, relating to the community and providing a feeling of safety and security.
The official website for M&T bank is clear, informative, and easy to navigate. At the top of the page you are greeted with a special bonus offer where you could earn rewards, such as cash. This is the first thing you see when you access the website, so it grabs your attention and immediately draws you in. When you scroll down to the middle of the website page you get a list of all products and services provided by M&T, accompanied by simple green figures and green font, associating that idea of green money. This is followed by links to learn more about their stance on sustainability, cultures, volunteering, and community. The bottom of the website contains all of the contact information for the business and disclosures.
This top to bottom layout M&T Bank uses is effective. First they aim to grab attention. Then they let you know about all of the opportunities that are available, and finally the draw you in with feelings of community, safety, warmth, and confidence that they have your best interest at heart. Rhetoric is the use of symbols to achieve goals, such as written language or visual images. (Campbell) M&T Bank does well using rhetoric in their communication with customers and potential customers. The only issue that I could find is that M&T Bank's LinkedIn page states that there are only three locations, where the official bank website states that there are 416 branches and ATMs. It is a possibility that the LinkedIn page is outdated, or that they need to communicate that information more clearly.
